The Divine Journey
Om Bapu Narayan Dutt Ji Maharaj was born on 13 Jeth, Samvat 1902 Vikrami (26 May 1845) in the sacred village of Nandachaur, District Hoshiarpur, Punjab, to Shri Prabhu Dyal Ji and Smt. Gulab Devi Ji. From birth, he displayed an extraordinary spiritual inclination and an insatiable thirst for divine knowledge.
A scholar of remarkable breadth, he mastered Sanskrit, Urdu, Gurmukhi, Arabic, and Persian. He studied the four Vedas, six Shastras, eighteen Puranas, and the Quran — embracing the universal truth across all sacred traditions. He received Naam Diksha from Bapu Jwala Singh Ji Maharaj, and his life became wholly devoted to remembrance, spiritual practice, worship, and the propagation of Om Naam.
In 1904, he founded Shri Om Darbar Nandachaur, establishing the sacred institution that would become the spiritual home for generations of devotees. His teachings centred on Om Naam, Simran, self-awareness, and the purpose and duties of human life. He authored the sacred granth Kalid-ul-Kalab, distilling the essence of his spiritual knowledge for posterity.
He guided three prominent disciples — Bapu Thakur Dass Ji Maharaj of Darbar Lambara, Bapu Harnam Ji Maharaj of Darbar Nandachaur, and Bapu Gosain Ram Lal Ji Maharaj of Darbar Amritsar — each of whom carried the divine flame of Om forward. Om Bapu Narayan Dutt Ji Maharaj merged into the Divine Light (Jyoti Jyot) on 25 Jeth Purnima (7 June 1912) at Village Nandachaur, the very land he had consecrated.
Om Naam, Simran, self-awareness — know the purpose and duties of human life.
